“ISO-80369” - Staying ahead of industry standard shifts!

Small Bore ConnectorA new global design standard (ISO-80369) for tubing connectors will improve patient safety by reducing the incidence of medical device tubing misconnections. The new standards require small bore connectors to be made out of semi-rigid and rigid materials, making incorrect interconnections less likely.

Enteral devices are the first of all the clinical applications to undergo this change (ISO 80369-3). The new ENFit connector provides a simple way to reduce the risk of enteral tube feeding misconnections and improve patient safety.

The timeline for implementation is as follows (http://www.stayconnected.org/#meet)

  • US, Canada, Puerto Rico:
    • Q1 2016 Enteral-specific syringes with ENFit connector and feeding tubes with ENFit connector
  • Europe, Middle East, Africa, Australia, New Zealand:
    • Timeline will remain on track with the introduction of new ENFit connectors starting late Q3 of 2015
